Why We Use Many Oils to Make Soap

If you are learning about soap making, one of the first questions you may ask is: why use many oils instead of just one? The answer is simple — good soap is about balance, not shortcuts.

In handmade soap making, each oil has a specific role. Using only one oil may sound easier, but it rarely gives a well-balanced bar. That is why we choose to work with a combination of base oils and essential oils, carefully selected and cooked together.

Olive oil is the heart of our soap. It is known for its gentle, conditioning properties and has been used in traditional soap making for centuries. Olive oil helps create a mild soap that feels comfortable on the skin and supports long-term use.

Coconut oil plays a different role. It contributes to cleansing and helps the soap wash away impurities. When used in the right balance with other oils, coconut oil adds effectiveness without making the soap harsh.

Shea butter brings richness and care to the formula. It supports skin comfort and gives the soap a more nourishing feel. Shea butter also adds structure to the bar, helping it stay solid and pleasant to use.

Castor oil is used in smaller amounts, but its role is very important. It supports a creamy, stable lather and improves the overall feel of the soap during use. Without castor oil, many soaps feel flat or lack foam.

Essential oils are added not only for scent, but also for character. They complete the formula and give each soap its individual identity. We use them thoughtfully, respecting both the process and the final result.
