How We Choose Herbs and Scents for Our Zodiac Soaps

Every zodiac sign has its own atmosphere. At Kemiskhan Atelier, I am creating a Zodiac soap collection one sign at a time, with a new soap planned each month. I began with Libra, and Scorpio is coming soon. Each bar is my interpretation of a sign through colour, scent and herbs, made for the pleasure of the senses rather than as a promise of any particular effect.

Where the ideas begin

For each sign, I research its planetary associations and the colours, scents and herbs that people have connected with it in different traditions. Then I ask how those ideas might feel in the hand and in a daily washing ritual. My knowledge of herbs and oils has grown through travel and gardening, and I am happy to bring those memories into this collection. It is where what I have learned meets what I love to make.

Each soap will have its own shades made from mixed clays, a layered blend of scents, and dried herbs dusted along one side of the bar. That herbal-dusted edge is a small signature of our work: a detail that makes each Zodiac soap feel personal.

Libra: a study in balance and beauty

Libra is traditionally associated with Venus, a symbol of beauty, affection and harmony. For my Libra soap, I chose French pink and yellow clays as a personal colour interpretation of that Venus-inspired mood. Pink suggests tenderness and connection; yellow brings warmth and light. They are not literal colours of a planet, but colours I chose to tell Libra’s story in soap.

The fragrance is another way of telling it. Bergamot oil brings a bright, uplifting note that I associate with openness and a fresh perspective. Jasmine oil speaks to affection, beauty and the romantic side of Venus in traditional scent symbolism. Ylang-ylang oil adds a soft, lush floral note that, to me, expresses pleasure and ease. Sandalwood oil grounds the blend with a warm woody note, giving those brighter florals a sense of balance. These are symbolic associations and sensory choices, not claims that an oil can change a person’s mood or health.

Rose petals echo the gentle floral story, while thyme herb adds an earthy counterpoint. Together with the two clays, they help me give Libra a character of its own: graceful, warm and never one-note.
