In history class, I remember learning about ancient Egypt — and the story that stopped me in my tracks: Queen Cleopatra (some say it was Nefertiti) was said to bathe in a pool filled with goat milk to keep her skin luminous and youthful. There is no hard archaeological proof, but the story has endured for centuries, and perhaps that says something in itself. Beauty rituals rooted in nature, passed down through generations — that is a kind of truth.

The Chemist Who Changed Everything

Later, I discovered the story of Jabir ibn Hayyan — a brilliant Arab chemist from the 8th–9th century, often called the father of chemistry. He is credited with pioneering the process of creating caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), and with it, the art of soap-making as we know it. The combination of alkali and animal fat — including goat fat — was transformative. A real person. A real discovery. A legacy that lives in every bar of handcrafted soap made today.
